Ferretti 102); "In the reign of this Hweg­badja, therefore, who ruled from about 1650 to 1680, four chief priests of the earth cult, and six of the cult of the silk-cotton tree, their families, retainers and disciples were sold to the Portuguese because of plots to incite the gods against the conquerors" (Herskovits II 88).
